Andrea Yang (she/her/hers)
Social Media Intern
My Story
Andrea was born and raised in Taiwan before immigrating to the U.S. in 2019 to pursue higher education, just months before the pandemic. As a first-generation immigrant, she faced challenges adapting to a new environment, including experiences of discrimination. Despite these obstacles, her parents made significant sacrifices to provide her with the best education possible. Attending a public high school in the Bay Area exposed her to diverse cultures and perspectives, shaping her understanding of equity and opportunity.
Recognizing the disparities that exist for first-generation immigrants—especially those with parents who are not fluent in English—Andrea developed a passion for mentorship. She has actively supported high school students from similar backgrounds, helping them navigate academic and career opportunities. Her firsthand experience of overcoming barriers has driven her commitment to paying it forward and advocating for more accessible resources.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Andrea enjoys visiting her twin sister at UC Davis, building miniatures, and exploring San Francisco. She hopes to use her skills to bridge gaps in access, advocate for underserved communities, and create meaningful connections through storytelling and marketing.
Andrea currently studies Economics and Media Studies at UC Berkeley, with a strong interest in marketing, project management, and creative strategy. In the summer of 2024, she interned at Chegg as a Content Marketing Intern, where she created content that resonated with the student community. This experience reinforced her passion for leveraging marketing as a tool for engagement and impact, leading her to pursue opportunities in social marketing.
Andrea is currently a social media intern at IDEAS Generation, creating social media content and designing engaging posts to reach the next generation of IDEAS leaders. She also generates a diverse range of media content to support the organization and hopes to make a difference in the community. Andrea is passionate about contributing to IDEAS Generation, leveraging her marketing and creative strategy skills to amplify student voices, foster community engagement, and drive impactful storytelling.
