Josh De Leon (he/him/his) was born and raised in Long Beach, California and is the proud son of Filipino immigrants. Josh brings experience across sectors and social change spaces as a community organizer, activist, nonprofit leader, and racial equity consultant. He currently works with Communities for a Better Environment, an environmental justice organization, and was recently appointed as commissioner for the City of Long Beach’s Equity and Human Relations Commission. Previously, he was the Curriculum Program Manager for Artivists United, spearheading the design of a fellowship for new and emerging arts-activists from historically marginalized communities in Los Angeles County.
As a grassroots leader in the Filipino/a/x community, Josh has been involved in many local initiatives, including hosting free health clinics in Historic Filipinotown, organizing workers to advocate for their rights, and collaborating on a mutual aid program for migrant and elderly community members at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the tech justice space, he is a core member for the Long Beach Anti-Surveillance Coalition, holding law enforcement accountable for their use of discriminatory tools like facial recognition. Josh completed fellowships with New Leaders Council Los Angeles and with the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO) and was a recipient of the Long Beach Area Peace Network's 2023 Peacemaker of the Year award. Previously, he was an Assembly District Delegate representing Long Beach, San Pedro, Avalon, and Signal Hill from 2021-2023, and has served as a board member for several organizations, including the nonprofit Rising Organizers. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Stanford University.
